Language Assessment through Literature

How can literature help us assess our students in the target language? Apart from the traditional assessment activities with literature that immediately spring to mind, we believe assessment with literature can be more diverse and more effective, embracing new ideas and technologies. Can audiovisual materials, such as interviews with authors on Youtube, contribute to students engagement with the literary materials? Will a blog be a good tool to assess co-authored text in various chapters delivered by our students? And what about the possibilities of using Twitter for the writing of very short stories?
